This one of a kind necklace was inspired by the practice of marking sheep ears to signify ownership. The Shetland Museum and Archives holds a collection of vintage cut outs dating from 1799. These show the specific markings related to each croft. I have replicated them in fine silver and vitreous enamel. The surnames or Croft names of the owner of the mark are scribbled in pencil and sealed by the enamel. The chain is made using a viking knit technique and fine silver wire. This is made to order so you can request specific names, colours and styles of ears.
